Welcome
Why start your crypto journey with Ledger
Ledger provides hardware wallets and tools that let you securely manage cryptocurrencies and digital assets. This short presentation walks you through the key ideas: security, setup, using your wallet, and best practices to stay safe.
Step 1 — Prepare
What you need before unboxing
- Stable internet connection and a personal device (phone or computer)
- A secure place to write down your recovery phrase — never a screenshot
- Time and a distraction-free environment
Preparation reduces the chance of mistakes during setup. Most importantly: never share your recovery phrase with anyone.
Step 2 — Setup the Ledger device
Unbox → Initialize → Record
Follow the on-screen prompts to initialize your Ledger hardware wallet. The device will display a recovery phrase (24 words). Write it down in order on the supplied card and store it safely. Ledger will never ask for this phrase online.
Step 3 — Use & manage assets
Install apps, add accounts, make transactions
Install the Ledger Live app on your desktop or mobile to manage accounts, check balances, and send/receive crypto. Always confirm transaction details on the physical device screen before approving.
Security Essentials
Protect the recovery phrase & device
- Never store your recovery phrase digitally (no photos, cloud, or notes)
- Use a PIN on the device and enable passphrase features if you need hidden accounts
- Buy devices only from the official Ledger store or authorized resellers
Security is a combination of good hardware, safe habits, and vigilance. Scams often rely on social engineering — be skeptical of unexpected messages or urgent requests about your crypto.
Advanced Tips
Improve your long-term safety
- Consider metal backup plates for extreme durability of your recovery words
- Use multi-device or multisig strategies for high-value holdings
- Keep firmware & Ledger Live updated from official sources only
For professional-grade security, combine cold storage with multi-signature setups and trusted custodial guards if needed.
What to avoid
Common mistakes new users make
- Sharing recovery phrases or entering them into a website or software wallet
- Using unofficial setup guides or third-party recovery tools
- Neglecting to verify the device's authenticity on first boot
If you suspect your recovery phrase has been exposed, transfer funds to a new wallet immediately after moving the assets using a secure device.
